The Latest Information
The latest update regarding the release of the 2024-25 FAFSA application from FSA Partners is out and it’s a little concerning.
The notice was time-stamped 9:01 PM on 11/11/23 – a Saturday following a federal holiday.
The internal links take you to the website, which states it was last updated on 11/07. The initial communication was 10/20.
****Three days after publishing this post, it was announced that the 2024-25 FAFSA application would be released by 12/31/23.****
The application will be released by (probably on ) 12/31 but that does not mean everything is on track to go smoothly.

What’s Been Shared with Universities?

Below this information is an explanation of some of the features of the new system with this statement near the end:
“We will offer training opportunities to help partners learn more about these new features.”

The dates seem to be cutting it extremely close for an application that’s due to be released in December.
Thanksgiving is 11/23, so that day is lost.
This certainly is not much time for financial aid offices to ensure they have completed all tasks necessary for a “smooth” transition.

When Will Students Have Access to the New FAFSA?
It is encouraging to see that progress is being made, but it appears that much of this work should have been implemented and completed by now.
At this pace, it’s hard to believe the application will be released to the public before mid-December.

A Caveat
Of course, no one knows what the impact of a government shutdown will have on the release of the 2024-25 FAFSA, but it’s reasonable to conclude it won’t be positive.
Let’s hope we’re wrong.
