Communities Need a Free Tutoring Program

Have you Googled “free tutoring programs near me”?

Were the results disappointing?

It’s not surprising.

Before the pandemic, many students needed homework help or supplemental instruction to understand classroom instruction in a particular subject. The need is even greater now.

The recent federal public school budget cuts have added to the need for many students and communities.

Many people can’t afford Sylvan or Kumon, but their children need help with schoolwork or extra stimulation to stay motivated.

I’m fortunate to live in a community with three free tutoring programs. I’ve volunteered at one for nearly two decades. Each of these programs draws students from nearby towns and states that lack free tutoring services in their area.

If you’re in this situation or simply want to help those who are, here’s a guide on how to start a program in your area.

You Can Save Money by Holding Onto Your Technology

Life can be expensive, especially if you have children. You can save money by not grabbing the latest product release.

You must choose between needs and wants. Choose what’s essential over what’s not.

Several products from Logitech were purchased within the last two years for a clean, professional look to meetings and videos. The business uses the Logitech LITRA GLOW Premium LED Streaming Light with TrueSoft, the C920e Business Webcam, the C922 Pro HD Stream Webcam, and the Blue Yeti World of Warcraft Edition USB microphone. (The microphone was purchased for the color scheme – not because I’ve ever played the game.)

There were less expensive choices, but they didn’t deliver the desired results. There were also more expensive choices that offered more than needed at the moment.

Those are the choices I make for my business.

A different thought process is used for personal tech items. I still use my old Apple iPad mini-2.

Bad News for Families with Multiple College Students

This is directed to families with multiple college students still enrolled in 2024-25.

The preliminary case studies from the National Association of Financial Aid Administrators for the new Student Aid Index (SAI) formula are out. This is the final phase of the implementation of the FAFSA Simplification Act of 2021.

Eliminating the multi-student discount is about to become a reality for thousands of families in the United States with college-age children.

The impact on these families is not good. Some would deem it devastating.
